ABOUT ALITHEA
About : Image
I understand that by engaging in therapy you make yourself vulnerable, so it is important that you feel comfortable with me in our sessions. So, here is a little about me.
MY QUALIFICATIONS, MEMBERSHIP AND EXPERIENCE
I hold an APCC accredited four-year qualification in psychology, a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, and general registration with AHPRA with endorsement in Clinical Psychology as an area of practice. I have worked across various hospital and other health settings, including chronic disease/managed care, acute inpatient, palliative care, consultation liaison, and community mental health. In private practice I support adults and children over 7 years with anxiety, including emotional or mental health concerns, traumatic experiences, relationship issues, and other challenges. I have completed research on the impact of stress and anxiety on interpersonal functioning. I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists.
MY BACKGROUND
Prior to training as a Clinical Psychologist, I worked in private practice for many years as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. My main areas of interest at that time were the management of eating and weight concerns, including in athletic populations; supporting athletic career transitions; and the relationship between physical and mental health. While I have an ongoing interest in exercise-based interventions and maintain connection to the field, I no longer practice in this space.
MY DOG
Ricky is a black & white whippet and therapy-dog-in-training. He takes me for long walks and makes sure I stop often to smell the roses. If you attend sessions in my rooms, you will likely meet him at some stage. He is friendly, enjoys pats, and doesn’t bite.
