Accessing Services and Rebates

Referrals: Insurance

MEDICARE

  • Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment under the Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. Under this scheme individuals diagnosed with a mental health disorder can access up to 20 subsidised individual sessions per calendar year. To learn more about this program click the highlighted link or consult your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist.                                        

  • Medicare rebates are also available for psychological services under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) scheme. Under this initiative individuals living with a chronic or complex medical illness can access up to five subsidised treatment sessions per calendar year for assistance in the care and management of a chronic disease. This may be in addition to sessions claimed under other initiatives.   • Medicare rebates are also available for psychological treatment under an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan. Under this scheme eligible individuals can be referred for up to 40 psychological treatment sessions over a 12-month period. PRIVATE HEALTH FUNDS

  • Clients with ancillary Private Health coverage may be eligible for a rebate on psychology sessions; however, you cannot use your Private Health rebate if you have already claimed through Medicare for a session. You may be able to claim on a range of services not usually covered by Medicare, such as relationship counselling. Contact your health fund provider for further information on your policy.

WORKCOVER

  • Clients who have sustained a psychological injury arising out of or in the course of employment may be eligible for rebates on psychology sessions under Workcover's WorkSafe initiative. Click the highlighted link for further information.

NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME

  • The NDIS provides funding directly to individuals aged under 65 who have permanent and significant disability. If you have a NDIS plan that provides funding for eligible services, you may be able to access a rebate for psychological treatment. Click the highlighted link for further information.
